I've been peeling bananas upside down for years now. I can't remember how I learned to do it. Either somebody told me or I watched a video. Either way, I have no shame when it comes to doing it in front of people. And as far as that little black bit on top, I just pinch it off and toss it with the peel!

“The real NOTW headline - the age of broadcast political bullies is nearly over | watch people jump” was in fact a good blog post.
If perhaps it owned much more photos it would most likely be possibly even a lot better.

Thank u -Brenna

It's a little arrogant to assume peeling from the bottom is some how easier or better. Why not just let people eat bananas the way they want to, and leave all the fuss for something important?

I've peeled both ways, I prefer the Top-Bottom Approach and I get along fine with the way I peel. If anyone has as much trouble as the guy in the video does, then maybe the Bottom-Top approach is for them - but it certainly isn't for me.

Thank you for posting this. Don't get me wrong. I love the US. A trip is always the cause for my excitement and others' jealousy, and that never diminishes, no matter how often I cross the Atlantic.

But on my return what's the first thing I do? Pop the kettle on for a nice cuppa and make myself some cheese on toast. (Seriously - I can't believe I cover 3 of your items on my first 5 minutes out of the cab from Heathrow!).

I have a theory though - I think this is quite deliberate. If you really did have all our stuff over there, why would anyone want to return to their own country?

it's amazing how badly you fail at opening a banana. even that poor imbecile in the video. I've NEVER had a problem opening a banana! what is wrong in your simian mind that you utterly fail at opening a banana?! you squeeze the end. SQUEEZE. squeezing causes pressure and bruising. and then you have the most disgusting part of a banana sitting on top for your first, ape-like bite. peeling a banana stalk first is easier. less messy. no squeezing. and guess what?! the peel is on it the entire way through so you can hold it just fine. lastly, as you take your final bite this way, you can leave that disgusting, sometimes crunchy part at the end for the prototype humans you so love.

I didn't say they were better - I love America and Americans, and have the utmost admiration for its achievements, which in recent decades clearly dwarf those of the UK. I said that on a cultural level around innovation each country has unique attributes and areas of expertise, that are surprisingly different and highly effective in combination. Maybe you should read the post again.

Hmm...I tried to be clear that I didn't think Brits were better at innovation. That, if anything, was the point of the post.

I guess I did assert that critical thinking is a strong attribute of Brits, and I guess I think of temperate, self-questioning, nuanced thinking as good critical thinking, as opposed to some of the stormy retrenchment of the US political debate. Though as I said, extreme critical thinking can be the enemy of decisive action. But obviously that's all a matter of opinion.

BTW I think viewing media agencies, in whatever country, as 'bottom feeders' is a bit archaic, having seen all sides of the profession...

Thanks for reading

In my experience Brits don't have any particular talent for critical thinking vs Americans. If anything it's the reverse. America still has very real 'culture wars' requiring people actively engage in some thorny debate vs the temperate and somewhat disconnected and irony-infused view of the world many Brits in their home country display. I think what you're describing is a difference in talent in UK and US media agencies, specifically. Most of the best advertising talent wouldn't consider joining a US media agency for a second unfortunately, as they've yet to develop genuine cultures of innovation and creativity and are seen by many as the 'bottom feeders' of the business. In this environment it's very easy for an Oxbridge-educated ambitious Brit to erronously believe Brits are more widely somehow superior as critical thinking, innovation, or whatever. Admitedly in the blog post you point out you are comenting on your specific area but the reply above indicated to me you feel it's a broader trait. BTW - I enjoyed the post.
